What is this case about?
We filed a class action against Mojang AB in Nacka tingsrätt on the 24th of June 2026, where the court assigned it the case number T 5478-26, and the whole thing centres on the forced migration of Mojang accounts over to Microsoft accounts.
In short, we claim three things: that Mojang applied new contract terms restricting the use of the game that were never properly presented to or approved by consumers, that consumers were forced to accept those terms & hand their accounts over to Microsoft under duress in order to keep playing, and that moving & processing personal data outside the EU had no proper legal basis, given that “consent” obtained under duress is not consent at all.
Can I still join the class action?
Not right now. The participation list was finalised and sent in to the court on the 19th of June 2026, where nothing could be added from that point onwards.
There is a possible way back in. What we are trying to do is get through the initial hurdle of being approved as a class action, and then demand that Mojang send out a notice to any affected users in their own internal databases, where everyone who is not currently on the list — and that is millions of people — would get a chance to join.
Obviously none of that is guaranteed, given that it depends on the court certifying the case first and then actually granting that request, so I’ll refrain from promising anything until we know.
What were the participation criteria?
To be part of the first group you had to have bought the game before the 10th of December 2013 (non inclusive, aka the 9th at the latest), be a EU/EEA resident, and have bought the game while under 18 years old.
The purchase date sits there given that the December 2013 documents are simply far stronger for what we are arguing. In simple terms, the 2013 privacy policy is one paragraph long and lets them use your data solely to complete the agreement, aka provide the game — no marketing, no tracking, no analytics — and the 2013 terms also say you bought the game rather than being granted a license, which matters a whole lot when they later go and revoke a “license” that was never a license in the first place.
Where is the case right now?
We submitted the filings on the 24th of June 2026, where the case was assigned the number T 5478-26 the day after.
After going through them the court preliminarily came to the conclusion that there appear to be grounds to proceed as a class action, while raising doubts as to whether it can try some of the claims, specifically points 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4. To my understanding those were reasonable questions rather than anything concerning, and we sent our response on the 5th of August 2026.
So now we wait for the court to decide whether this qualifies as a class action, where in the meantime we are arguing over who is responsible for contacting the participants — the court previously mentioned handling the email sendoff themselves, but they seem to be backing off from that.
Do participants risk anything if the case is lost?
No. As a participant you do not carry any risk, financial or otherwise, if we lose, given that participants are not responsible for any of the proceeding costs.
Will my name appear on public legal records?
Yes, unless there are grounds for it to be redacted. Information can only be masked or redacted where there are sufficient legal grounds for it, which in simple terms means you have to be able to demonstrate that it is sensitive and could expose you to harm if it were published, and/or that there is a risk to your personal safety due to threats or violence.
Can Mojang delete or block my account for participating?
No. That would be retaliation, which as such just opens grounds for additional lawsuits, and they would kind of be cooking themselves at that point.
Could I be made to travel to Sweden to testify?
No. You could only be asked to provide a statement where Mojang explicitly requested it and the judge determined it was relevant to the case, and even then you would not have to fly over to Sweden, given that the statement can be taken in your home country.
Can I withdraw after joining?
Yes. You would simply need to notify the court that you wish to withdraw, and that is the entirety of it.
What is the case asking for?
What we want out of this initial case is the full reversal of the Microsoft account migration, where accounts & user data are processed by Mojang within the EU; a declaration that any contract terms introduced after the date of purchase are invalid; a declaration that applying ambiguous or hidden terms is a violation of consumer rights; and damages for the breach of data handling regulations.
The damages are set at 15 000kr per participant in the submitted filings. The court has since said that the damages claim is independent from the other claims and can be tried on its own, which is very good news, given that even in the odd chance that everything else fails, the damages can still be processed as a standalone claim.

Why does the funding total go down when nothing was spent?
Because the money is held in Swedish Krona but usually displayed in US Dollars, given that USD is the more widely understood currency. The conversion rate on our displays updates every 24 hours, so when the SEK weakens against the USD the displayed total drops even though not a single krona has moved.
Nothing has been lost or spent when that happens. If you’d rather verify it than take our word for it, the bank statements show every actual movement in & out of the account, and the funding history shows the totals over time.
